AI Dev Tools Weekly: Etsy in ChatGPT, MolmoAct 2, and the Distillation Debate
Three stories from ai-tldr.dev this week that are worth paying attention to for developers and AI builders.
Etsy Goes Native Inside ChatGPT
Tag @Etsy inside ChatGPT and you can now search 100M+ Etsy listings without leaving the conversation. This is the Operators/Actions model at work — AI as a shopping interface layer. The interesting question isn't "can Etsy do this" but "when does every major ecommerce platform have this?" The answer is: sooner than you think. Developers should pay attention to how native integrations are being built into LLM chat UIs.
MolmoAct 2: Open Bimanual Robotics
Ai2 released MolmoAct 2 — a fully open bimanual robotics model trained on 720 hours of open-access demonstration data. Most frontier robotics research is closed. This is a significant move for the open research community. If you're interested in physical AI and haven't looked at what Ai2 is building, this is worth a deep read.
The Distillation Debate
Nathan Lambert's piece on the "Distillation Panic" is the most important policy essay this month for AI researchers. The U.S. is tightening export controls in ways that could lump legitimate research distillation (training smaller models on larger model outputs) together with IP theft. Lambert argues this approach would hurt U.S. open labs more than it slows China. Whether you agree or not, this is the policy environment developers building with open models are now operating in.
